A Review of "Read Doujin" by David Hawkins
In Read Doujin, David Hawkins provides an exceptional Christian text to celebrate the Christmas season. The story begins with a typical Thanksgiving dinner, where David, a professor in a Southern Baptist church, is invited to read from the Bible at the time of the fellowship meal. The invitation is unusual--none of the church members are Christians and the majority have never heard of Dr. David. However, Dr. David does not let this fact deter him from participating. He reads his most favorite passage from the New Testament and shares it with the group.
During the course of the night, people are asked questions about the passage and some of them are surprised to learn that it was written by someone who is not a Christian. Another surprise comes when one man refers to a fellow minister as "Bible-believing," a description that most people would view as completely absurd อ่านโดจิน. The reverend explained that he believes that the original meaning of "read" is more literal than any other meaning. He goes on to say, "Read my Bible and be saved."
With the popularity of this book, many more people will see that reading the Bible is more than just reading from the Bible. People who had previously believed that they couldn't enjoy God's truths because of their faith will discover that this book gives clear insight into the Bible and how one can read Doujin confidently and continue to move forward despite the challenges that may arise from their current faith. They might be able look at the Bible with a new perspective and gain a greater appreciation for its role in the world.
The book itself contains three books in one volume. The prologue is the first. It provides a history of Doujins' growth over the years and explains why the book has spread so widely. The second book focuses on the topics in the prologue. It also introduces David Hawkins, the author. The major part of the book provides explanations and explains topics such as the role of Doujins, how they were perceived in the past, and how they can be utilized to aid Christians today. While previous books have provided similar information on Doujins (these include the definitions and discussions from earlier Bible studies) The book offers detailed explanations of doujin within the context of Christian faiths.
Before reading Doujin one must first be aware of what Doujins are. Hawkins states that "Doujins" are a distinct collection of images built on Buddhism and derived from Japanese shoji paintings. Douin Zen says this book is a reference guide for those who want to discover the meaning and purpose and to adopt a realistic and logical view of Buddhist psychology, metaphysics, and ethics.
This book is easy to read and its message is simple and effective. The book's concise introduction and detailed descriptions of each Doujin enable readers to quickly grasp the fundamentals of Doujins. The language of Doujins makes it easy for students to concentrate on the concepts and not become lost in the esoteric language. This book is also chock with illustrations and diagrams that will help readers get familiar with the symbols that comprise Doujins with ease. Combined with its clear explanations of how to use each Doujin as well as the reasoning that they represent, this book will serve as an excellent basis for understanding Doujins within the classroom and beyond.
